We like to imagine a world with a whole lot more self love.
Not selfishness, but real, true, steady self love.
Self love is rooted in respect, in confidence, and in an unbreakable inner knowing that we each matter.
In fact it's what we believe would change everything for the better.
When we love ourselves it affects every other interaction we have.  It allows us to be compassionate with ourselves and others, and because we know that we have value it keeps us from needing to tear others down just to feel good about ourselves.
Self love tells us when to stay and when to go.  It helps us hold others close while still giving them room.
Self love is the key to making peace with ourselves and others.
And because we believe this we focus our work on helping you build that better relationship with yourself.
You see, the beauty industry is one of the worst offenders when it comes to fostering self hatred.
People who don't feel good about themselves are easier to push around.  Dissatisfaction makes folks better consumers because there is always a new problem to solve, even if it's a made up problem, like having pores.

(People have pores so if your face doesn't look like a smooth sheet of plastic that's totally normal and ok)
Rather than being told it's ok to just be ourselves companies use marketing messages around perfection to tell us we need to be something else, and that our value is tied to how we look.  A lot of that is something we can't actually control, or that it takes extreme and expensive measures to alter.
We live in a world that has gotten dangerously narcissistic. Discomfort with ourselves depletes the kindness we can offer and misdirects the energies we could be using to create joy and connection.
Anxious, insecure energy even pervades the search for the "best" and "most active" ingredients in products.  It's important to take care, but it can tip into unhealthy territory rooted in "not good enough".

We ask ourselves, what if we were inspired by each new ingredient, rooting our choices in joy and celebration of how our miraculous bodies work?
We want to help people find comfort and appreciation for their skin.
It's just one piece of self love, but it's the area where we choose to work because skin can deeply affect self confidence.
It's why we promise to speak to you in a way that respects your unique beauty, and empowers you to find comfort with your body.
We imagine each of our customers radically loving themselves just as they are, problems and all.
We hold a vision of you using your skin care time as deep and joyful nourishment, and appreciation of your body.

It makes us super duper happy when someone comes into our store and tells us emphatically that they have decided to treat themselves well.

Just that one decision shows them taking a stand for self love.
We don't care if it means you need less products.  That's better for the Earth anyway, and we've always been about quality over quantity.
So, if you would be so kind, we'd like to suggest that you offer yourself an incredible gift in this season of love.

Close your eyes, put your hand on your heart and bring your attention to your body as you say,
"I approve of myself."
It might feel funny or even uncomfortable, and that's ok.  Wherever you are is ok to be.  Accept whatever feelings arise and send them gratitude for whatever they tell you.
Simply starting with approving of yourself is a key to moving toward a more joyful, compassionate self relationship.
We love your skin, and you.

If you're ready to celebrate self love we've got some fantastic resources to recommend.

Three of our favorite, older books are:
Louise Hay's You Can Heal Your Life
Pema Chodron's Start Where You Are
And a few of our talented friends have just released new books designed for positive self relationships.
Jolene Hart has just released Ignite Your Light, an energetic guide to beauty, resilience, and joy.
And Carrie Ciula has just put out The Little Book of Big Life Change which covers 9 areas of focus where right effort will help build a sense of wholeness.
And if you need a new self love musical jam hit up Sahida Apsara's Radiant Star - in fact we hope you'll turn it up and dance in your jammies right now.
