Readers,
I know that many of you are seasoned preppers who have made mistakes along the way, so I feel safe in admitting this to you. Over the years, I have fallen for premade prepping kits over and over again – even though I tell all of my readers to make your own. I get duped by the images and descriptions. “This kit will be different,” I would say. Or “This kit has the special tool you’ve been researching.” Then, the underwhelming reveal when I opened the package - cheap items that wouldn't last through the duration of one emergency. I know that many of you have made this prepper mistake… Gosh, I hope I am not the only one. :)
I gave up on the idea of a quality pre-made survival kit and came to the conclusion that perhaps the best survival kit was one made of items I had found and used along the way.
The folks over at Global Tactical Gear asked me a few weeks ago to try out their survival kit. While I was skeptical because of past experiences, I agreed; and guess what?
When I opened the package I wasn’t disappointed!
If you have been looking for a survival kit filled with quality products, look no further.
I immediately thought, “Finally! There’s a company out there who gets me!” Or at least gets what I am looking for in preparedness gear. Here’s one of the main reasons why I was excited – it had products that I have previously purchased. The flashlight is very similar to a Cree style and has 350 lumens and is almost identical to the one I purchased for my vehicle. As well, the survival card was one that I had previously purchased for my everyday carry gear. For the last few weeks, I have been playing around with the different items and can finally say that there is a pre-made survival kit worth buying. Best of all, it is small enough to carry in the glove compartment of your vehicle or even in a larger-sized purse.
While I am still a big believer in creating your own custom kits, this is a great product you could build on. I would love for you all to check out my review and read more about the multipurpose items included in this survival kit.
Would you like one of these amazing survival kits?

Preppers,
Hurricane Preparedness Week Starts today! We’ve written a lot about hurricane preparedness over the years, and with the destruction of last year’s hurricane season, I am urging anyone living near hurricane-prone areas to check their supplies and get prepared.
In fact, hurricane experts believe the 2018 hurricane season will be just as active as last years where the U.S. could see as many as 5 major hurricanes. We all know the unpredictable nature of these disasters. These storms can range from mild to severe, cause wind damage, flooding, and tornadoes. You can be fully stocked with provisions and then your home is flooded in a matter of minutes. For example, before Hurricane Harvey made landfall it was predicted as merely a tropical storm or Category 1 hurricane. In fact, many living in the area did not think much of it in terms of severity and only stocked up on supplies for a few days. Within those few days, it had developed into a Category 4 with 132 mph winds.
Having an emergency plan and some simple supplies on hand can help you get through a disaster unscathed. If you can start gathering supplies now, you won’t have to deal with panic buying or going home empty-handed.

Readers,
I want to share a story of how in my twenties I narrowly escaped a dangerous situation because of my lack of situational awareness. Admittedly, I grew up rather sheltered and because of that safe upbringing (thanks Mom and Dad), I had never tapped into the dangers of life. When I was 20, my study group made a late night study session and I wasn’t sure of the address where we were meeting. This was way before cell phones, so I when saw a payphone on the side of a gas station, I pulled in to the side of the store where the phone was located. Just as I was getting out of my car to make a phone call, another car pulled up full of what seemed like were misguided youth. My initial reaction was to get back in the car, but I thought I was overeating and went to make my phone call. I dialed the number but couldn’t get through and noticed the group of men had surrounded me. I hung up the phone and truly saw the gravity of the situation I was in: I was on the side of a store where no one had a good view of me, at night, and surrounded by a group of men … ummmm, this was not good.
One of them started trying to talk to me and as I politely answered him back, I slowly began inching toward to doors of the gas station. He followed me inside and I gave the gas station attendant a look like I needed help. The attendant asked the group to leave and let me stay there until they drove off. Guys, I was lucky that night. Things could have ended up very differently for me. I wanted to share this story with you because there will be times in our lives where we feel we are in danger and you need to know how to keep your wits about you and escape the situation.
Because situational awareness is more than just an emergency preparedness concept, but a life concept, I wanted to share this article with you written by Jeremiah Johnson. He highlights five ways to avoid an approaching attacker using tactical strategies. It’s something we should all know, both men and women. Based on the story I just shared, this obviously hits home with me, but also because I have three young teenagers who may find themselves in similar situations and they should know how to get out of them as fast as possible.
Tess
